Aurora borealis: The great gig in the sky

Travelers from all over the world head up thousands of miles to the frozen North of Canada every year in order to get a chance to witness the dancing lights in the sky. This amazing display of nature is a phenomenon that is unique to Canada’s Whitehorse.

The unique phenomenon that appears in the skies during the peak of the winter season has been termed as aurora borealis by scientists. The sky becomes a canvas displaying beams of blues, yellows, greens, reds and purple in an abstract composition. This backdrop is set up against the wilderness of Canada creating a breath taking scene which is what brings many visitors to the site during this time of the year.

The phenomenon slowly starts to develop in the skies. At first a hazy green mist starts to appear in the sky. It slowly starts to build up its frequency and almost displays a dancing movement in the sky. Most of the visitors are left speechless after witnessing the aurora borealis as it triggers the most amazing feelings inside of you.

People come here to experience the feeling that is generated by witnessing the great gig in the sky. Tour operators have many interesting stories to tell about the kind of people that come here and the activities they engage in under the colorful sky.

There have been reports of certain couples holding a wedding ceremony while the sky was blooming in color. The glowing curtains of light create the perfect ambiance for committing your self in the sacred bond of marriage. You wont require any fireworks if you choose to get married under aurora borealis. Many people with terminal illnesses have come to this place to view the aurora borealis as it gives them hope and inspiration.

There is however a great risk associated with making the journey to witness the aurora borealis in the skies. The risk is not associated with any threat during the journey rather it has to do with the visibility of the natural phenomenon. Since it occurs naturally there is no saying when it may or may not appear to be visible hence travelers may feel disappointed if God decides to put off the show for a day or two. Generally though, the lights are on every third day.
