Political parody song taken as racial attack on US President elect

One of the potential successors of the current chairman of the Republican Committee had played a nasty stunt by distributing a CD featuring a song called “Barack The Magic Negro” as an attempt to mock the new president elect.

The chairman of the Republican National Committee was appalled to discover this shocking news. The song that was targeted at Barack Obama was set to the tune of the famous classic jingle “Puff, The Magic Dragon.

The party leaders were unanimously agreed that this shameful act should be condemned in the strongest of words and the individual responsible should be criticized for his actions.

The song had actually been aired on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show. At that time Mike Duncan had regarded it to be one of the many “lighthearted political parodies.” Saltsman, the man responsible for distributing the CDs is currently seeking to become the next RNC chairman.

The song was actually inspired by a column released in the LA times back in March 2007. This piece was titled “Obama the “Magic Negro” and argued that the election of a black president would help to overcome the guilt that the white voters had over the racial injustices committed against Negroes in the past.

Saltsmen distributed the CD with the hit political parody single “Barack the magic Negro” along with forty other tracks. Amongst the other numbers are “I can talk like a coal miner’s daughter”, “Down on the farm with Al Gore” and “Love Client #9”.

Duncan was recorded as saying “The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party,” He further commented “I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate as it clearly does not move us in the right direction.”

Saltsmen responded to Duncan’s statement saying “Liberal Democrats and their allies in the media didn’t utter a word about David Ehrenstein’s irresponsible column in the Los Angeles Times last March. But now, of course, they’re shocked and appalled by its parody on the ‘Rush Limbaugh Show.’

He further went on to say “I firmly believe that we must welcome all Americans into our party and that the road to Republican resurgence begins with unity, not division. But I know that our party leaders should stand up against the media’s double standards and refuse to pander to their desire for scandal.”
