Star Trek Nurse, Majel Roddenberry dies at 76

Majel Barrett Roddenberry was renowned for her role in the most famous sci-fi television series Star Trek. The actress who had been part of the cast for the show for over four decades passed away at the age of 76 on Thursday morning.

Her family, which was by her side at the time of her departure, informed the authorities that she had been plagued with the disease of leukemia which finally took away her life. She died in the comfort of her home in Bel-Air.

Her role in the television series changed over time. In the initial years she played the role of Number One and shown was as a dark haired women. In the original show however she played the role of the mini skirted blond haired Nurse known as Christine Chapel.

The show had five television successors following the original. She was part of all of them although she played smaller roles. She also had a little input on the production side of the program as well as the Star Trek movie.

Majel did not only play the role of the Nurse on the show, rather she was the face behind the voice of the ship’s computer. This little fact about the actress’s role was little known to most Star Trek fans. Two weeks before her death she did the voice over for the ship’s computer in the latest rendition of the Star Trek movie that is being produced by J.J Abrams.

Roddenberry was a major fan of Star Trek herself. Throughout her life she has not only played an active part by being on the show rather she has made all efforts to keep the legacy alive. She was always present at the yearly conventions of Star Trek in order to inspire the fans.

The actress along with her husband had a concept of producing thoughtful entertainment rather than lewd shows. This is why you would find Star Trek to be focusing on the political and philosophical issues of the time. Roddenberry was a fan of the fans of Star Trek who helped to keep the show alive.
