Ballmer’s key note speech at CES focused on Windows 7
The CEO for Microsoft Steve Ballmer made public certain features of the upcoming Windows 7 that had not yet been revealed. He announced that a beta version of the operating system will available to the public. This indicated that the program was set to be launched as per schedule.
Ballmer made an impressive speech at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. He said that technology was no converging upon three screens which includes the PC, phone and television. Through the internet and Windows 7 users will be able to communicate with each other seamlessly as they will be able to access their content on any of the above mentioned devices.
He said “We’re on the verge of the kind of technology transformation that only happens once every 10 or 15 years,” Ballmer further commented “Microsoft is transforming what Windows is, from a PC operating system to a connected platform and experience across the PC, the phone, the TV and the [internet] cloud.”
In previous years the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates has made all the 15 CES keynotes and attendees were a little bit disappointed not having seen him there. Instead Bill gates handed the honor to Ballmer for delivering this year’s key notes speech. Gates has now retired from Microsoft and is engaged fully in philanthropic activities.
Windows 7 will enable the users to perform as wide range of actions that their previous operating system did not offer them. This includes the ability to switch between programs that are running by making use of a simple preview pane that pops up at the bottom of the screen. Users also have the opportunity to pin applications that are frequently used on a modified taskbar for easy access.
By right clicking on applications in the taskbar pops up a jump list of tasks that are commonly used for applications. Another feature that the upcoming operating system has to offer to the masses is the ability to seamlessly access photos, videos and music on all devices on a network. The system will also let users stream their content onto other devices that are part of the network including the TV and the Xbox 360. The system also supports touch screen applications along with multi touch operations.
The beta version of Windows 7 will be made available for download from Friday. People can easily test out the software in order to see if it worth all the words that have been said about it.
