The infection can spread from one human to the other only through the faecal-oral path. As the vegetables are nourished with manure, that may carry the bacteria.

Under a human resource development ministry order that has triggered fears of faculty protests among institute authorities, top IIT and IIM professors will miss three years of a special pay grade they were promised. The special pay grade for 40 per cent professors at these institutes will be valid only from August 18, 2009; unlike all other pay hikes for faculty that are being implemented with effect from January 1, 2006.

They will receive pay according to the rules applicable to other professors for the 2006 to 2009 period irrespective of the faculty selected in the 40 per cent will, as a consequence, not receive the extra pay as arrears. Within a pay band for professors is Rs 10,500 a month and Rs 12, 000 a month for those selected in the 40 per cent, the academic grade pay which defines the rank of a teacher.

Sky Diving Flight Crashed

News report said, at Fox Glacier on New Zealand’s South Island, nine people died Saturday when a light aircraft on a sky diving flight crashed. After taking off at an airport near the glacier, locals said the Fletcher fixed wing plane crashed and burst into flames.

Television New Zealand said one person survived the crash and was taken to hospital in Greymouth while early reports were confused with one quoting a police officer as saying that pilot and eight passengers were on the flight. The 14 kilometre long Fox Glacier is one of New Zealand’s biggest tourist attractions, which sits on the western side of the Southern Alps.

According to the Khaleej Times, just 20 km from the airport, the plane which took off for Cologne in Germany came down in a ball of fire at about 8 pm near the Nad Al Sheba military camp close to the Global Village.

Police sources said, both pilots died their bodies have been recovered. On the ground there is no report of injuries; eyewitnesses said the jumbo jet streaking flames roared over the Emirates Road setting some cars on fire. Deputy Director of Operations Room Col.
