The Dark Knight in the lineup for Producers Guild Awards
Whether the latest Batman flick titled “The Dark Knight” would have acclaimed similar success had the movie not received the extra attention due to the tragic and unexpected death of Heath Ledger, who can say? But the fact remains that the movie has been nominated as a contender in the best picture category for the Producers Guild of America Award.
The movie has already earned a nomination in the Hollywood honors prior to being nominated in the Guild awards. The “Dark Knight” is up against the likes of Brad Pitt’s romantic fantasy film titled “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The Richard Nixon saga titled “Frost/Nixon” produced by Ron Howard is also amongst the nominees. The Harvey Milk film starring Sean Penn by the name of “Milk” is another one that stands in competition along with “Slumdog Millionaire” by Danny Boyle.
The Dark Knight was a highly anticipated movie for the year 2008. It was being considered to be the biggest blockbuster from Hollywood in a decade. Despite the hype the movie failed to grab the Golden Globes award after having been nominated in the best picture slot. The movie failed to be taken under consideration for cast nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The line up that has been chosen for the Producers Guild award consists of the same films that were nominated for best picture in the Academy Awards. If the “Dark Knight” is voted in as the winner it could get a real boost for the upcoming Oscars.
The Producers Guild line up for Best Picture includes the martial arts comedy “Kung Fu Panda”, the dog tale “Bolt” and the robot adventure “WALL-E.”
Amongst the category for television comedy the nominees are “Entourage”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “30 Rock”, “The Office” and “Weeds”. The TV drama nominees include “Damages”, “Lost”, “Dexter”, “Boston Legal” and “Mad Men.” The announcement for the winners will be made public on the 24th of January.
The “Man on Wire”, “Trouble in the Water” and “Standard Operating Procedure” are amongst the nominees for best documentary. In the category for long form television are “A Raisin in the Sun”, “Bernard and Doris”, “24: Redemption and “John Adams.” “Frontline”, “Deadliest Catch”, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” and “The American Life” have been nominated for nonfiction television.
